YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Your participation is important to the success of TAUNY. There are a number of ways you can support local arts programming and traditional artists.
TAUNY is a membership organization and all annual membership contributions are important to our success. Your membership fee serves not only as a source of income for the organization, but also as a demonstration to state and federal agencies and to foundations and businesses that our very own local community supports our important work with traditional folk artists and believes in what we do. Members receive informative quarterly newsletters, a 10% discount on most items in the North Country Folkstore, and special invitations or discounts to TAUNY-sponsored events throughout the year. Memberships at the following levels will be acknowledged in our Annual Report, unless you request otherwise. If you wish to make a membership contribution at a different level, or prefer to pay your membership by mail, please use the forms below or call us at 315-386-4289. As we state in our Membership information, gifts at the Tradition Bearer, Master, Folk Hero, Living Legend and North Country Muse levels will be acknowledged in our Annual Report, unless you request that we not do so. Otherwise, we will not disclose your personal information--mailing and E-mail addresses, telephone numbers, etc.--without your knowledge or permission. Since we do not maintain a secure website, we do not accept credit card information online; we only get that information from you by direct contact, by phone, fax, or regular mail. We will take reasonable steps to protect the security of any personal information we collect from you. BECOME A TAUNY PARTNER Besides becoming a member of TAUNY, there are many other ways you can support our organization and partner with us in promoting and preserving our valuable regional traditional folk arts. Volunteer As TAUNY grows and adds new programs each year, we welcome volunteers to help in a variety of ways. Volunteers are needed to receive visitors at our Canton gallery and North Country Folkstore, to help with mailings or our archives, or to assist with events such as the Borderland Fiddling Festival & Contest and the Winterfest Peasoup and Johnnycake Lunch. Stop in or call to ask how you can get personally involved in our exciting programs.
You may know of existing oral history audio tapes, photographs or home movies about local people, places or events that represent important customs and traditional arts of our region. Or you may be looking for a home for an example of local folk art that you think is consistent with our mission. Such gifts will be graciously accepted or we can suggest other appropriate repositories for you to consider. We will be happy to discuss details with you. Gifts of Cash In additional to memberships, contributions of cash have an immediate impact on TAUNY programs and events. Several ongoing TAUNY projects need such support to assure their continuing success. If you itemize your annual taxes, a cash gift may be deductible up to 50% of your adjusted gross income. For larger gifts, the opportunity to name rooms and programs exists. For more details please contact us. Gifts of Appreciated Securities Another way of supporting TAUNY and realizing personal tax benefits is by donating stocks, bonds or mutual funds which have increased in value. By giving a gift of appreciated securities, you will receive an income tax deduction for the full-market value and avoid tax on capital gains. Wills and Bequests One of the simplest ways to help sustain TAUNY’s future is through your will. If you decide to include us in your will, contact your attorney to discuss what form of planned gift best fits your needs and circumstances. You can name TAUNY as the direct beneficiary of specific assets [known as a specific bequest], of a portion of your estate, or of your residual estate after payment of other bequests [known as a residual bequest]. TAUNY participates in Leave a Legacy in Northern New York, a project to encourage planned giving and to educate North Country residents about the importance of remembering local charities in their estate plans.
