It is in this setting that the traditions of the region evolved. Resources provided livelihoods for lumbermen, fishermen, guides, boatbuilders, decoy carvers, hunters and farmers. Indigenous plants provided materials for products to sell: balsam pillows and sweetgrass baskets for example. Long winters kept people indoors making quilts, dancing to fiddle music in someone's kitchen or sitting around a fire telling stories. Communities established events based on the rhythm of the seasons: ice carnivals, maple festivals, bullhead feeds. In addition, each of the ethnic groups which settled in the region brought their own family customs with them.

Proceeds from sales at the Folkstore support various TAUNY’s educational programs, including performances, demonstrations, and workshops by master traditional artists. We appreciate your enthusiastic support.
